An Introduction - Not That It's Needed -To The Gryffindor Fat Lady

The Gryffindor Fat Lady, who is she? Where did she come from, and what makes her so unique? To answer that, we have to take a look at what is said about her.

In the fictional world of  Harry Potter, the Fat Lady is a painting of a woman most likely in her late 40s to early 60s. She is a woman who would have stood about 5.7 foot  (ca. 152 centimeters) tall and was considered to be medium-sized; her portrait depicts her as fat and wearing a silk pink dress. Her hair and eyes appear to be black. For the purpose of avoiding copyright issues, I created my own version of a fat lady using AI. The photo to the left is my rendering of her. It is not intended to look anything like her at all.

What makes this portrait so unique is the fact that the person pictured is semi-sentient. Huh? What? Yeah, I know what you are thinking: how is that possible? Well, in our world it is not. But in the world of Harry Potter, it is possible. And, in that world, she does exist. She is the embodiment of a former person who most likely was a student at the school. It's also possible that she is the mother of Godric Gryffindor, who, by the way, lived in the 10th century, leaving us to consider that she was married. Though that is not likely, as canon suggests, she lived in either the 1600s or near the turn of the century, around 1890. There is actually little that is known about her. Why this is the case is based on the book's focus, Harry Potter. So we know she lived, assume she was a student at Hogwarts, and was most likely a Gryffindor herself.

So what was she like? Possibly a woman of high class, sorry to say she was vain, had a temper, and probably suffered some sort of trauma. Most likely teased about her size as a girl. She did have a soft side and was loyal and caring, possibly nurturing. She loved to have a good time and likely partied really hard for that time period. Of course this is in the world of Harry Potter.

Therefore, why a blog about a fictional painting?

There are several key characteristics about the Fat Lady that are actually applicable to the real world. That is the point of this blog. I am going to explore them, and hopefully you will find some interesting things about yourself, technology, and how we as humans should treat people we deem different from us. The journey begins in the next post. Ah yes, you must come back to see what we brew up in the next post. See you in the next one.
